Roles & permissions

Every member of your team has one of four roles: Owner, Content Creator, Instructor, or Member. A person’s role decides what they can do with labs – from building and publishing to viewing reports.

Building access works at the team level: a role that can edit one lab can edit all of them. Instructor access is granted per lab: an Owner decides which labs each instructor can see and play.

Owners and Content Creators build labs. Either role can create a lab, import one from a repository, and open and edit any lab in the team – its content, its sandbox configuration, its files, and its version history. Both roles can publish changes, put a lab into maintenance mode, add labs to invites, and delete labs.

Editing access covers all labs in the team: assign the Content Creator role to the people who build content, and they can work on everything.

Setting a lab’s play limits is reserved for Owners.

Owners and Content Creators can always start their own labs to test them, independent of any session or IP limits set on the lab.

Instructors work with labs without editing them. An instructor can open the labs they’ve been given access to in read-only mode, play them, and follow sessions – for example to prepare for a session or run through the material the way their audience will.

Instructor access is granted per lab: a team Owner adds and removes instructors on each individual lab – see Give team members access to a lab.

Instructors can also view lab logs.

Members follow the results: they can view lab reporting – activity, users, and sessions – and lab logs. Building, viewing, and playing labs is the work of the other three roles.
